An essential ingredient to any Nextfest recipe is DEVELOPMENT, and in that spirit
we would like to draw your attention to our weekend afternoon activities.
Since year one Nextfest has showcased play readings.
This year we're happy to present a full afternoon of readings from local high school
playwrights as part of the Enbridge High School Mentorship Program.
These are all works in progress, and it's your opportunity to participate in the
development process. The setting is informal to facilitate artist
exploration and feedback.
It's afternoon, but it's not an afternoon tea. It's an afternoon tease.
June 5 Reality is a hard place to be for a Jr. beauty queen in training. Same goes if you're an elementary school dropout with only a dog for a friend. When these two meet, shamanism and world fame overtake homework and making friends. But how far do you have to go to truly escape your life? |

June 6 There is no way to describe the world she lives in today. She knew about The Codes and she knew underage hugging was punishable by law. But sometimes people are unpredictable. The young boy with the abnormally large heart never thought hot pink would be his favourite colour. And she didn't know she'd live to see the next day. There's a lot of real bad seeds out there and children aren't pure like they used to be. They can't be saved.
